Backyard builds go faster — and look better — when the site is ready before crews arrive. A little prep work pays off in saved days and fewer surprises.
1. Clear the work area
Move planters, furniture, and toys out of the build footprint. Trim back anything overhanging the space — branches, vines, even string lights you'd forgotten about. Crews need a clear staging area as much as they need a clear build area.
2. Locate utilities
Before any digging, we'll call in a utility locate, but it helps to know roughly where your sprinkler lines, low-voltage lighting, and gas runs live. If you've added landscaping over the years, dig up old plans or photos if you have them.
3. Plan access
Where will materials be staged? Where will trucks park? A gate that needs to come off, a fence panel that needs to come down — easier to plan for before day one than to discover on day one.
Three small steps that make every build smoother. If you're getting close to breaking ground on a project with us, we'll walk through this list together.
